Suggested Activities

Below are some suggested activities. This is not an exhaustive list, so feel free to be creative and let us know what you come up with. Also check the back of the Mercy Street Mentor Handbook for more ideas.

Free

  • Take them to your church
  • Go to church with them
  • Go grocery shopping
  • Spending time with your friends or family
  • Take to a work event
  • Pet sit together
  • Get outside and play games
  • Shoot hoops at the park
  • Kick a soccer ball around
  • Help them with school work
  • Read through a book together
  • Attend a Champions of Hope event
  • Visit a College
  • Give mentee lessons in something you know (drums, guitar, woodworking, sewing, etc.)
  • Wash a car (yours or someone else s)
  • Have lunch at their school with them

Low Cost

  • Cook a meal together
  • Flying kites
  • Go see a movie or rent one to watch
  • Explore activities in their neighborhood (www.fairpark.org)
  • Ice Cream Sandwiches at Pokey O’s  (www.pokeyos.com)
  • Try a new type of food or eating place that neither mentor or student has been
  • Making cards/gifts for the next major or minor Holiday
  • Go Fishing
  • Swimming
  • Check out the new Klyde Warren Park (www.klydewarrenpark.org)

Higher Cost

  • Major Sporting Event (Mavs, Rangers, Cowboys, Stars, FC Dallas)
  • Dallas Aquarium
  • Dallas or Fort Worth Zoo
  • Music Hall at Fair Park
  • Collegiate sporting events in the DFW area
  • Rewards system for grades. Suggested for Middle School and higher.
  • Go on trip together (with parent approval)

Service

  • Develop a community service project
  • Think of someone you can help or make a gift for
  • Visit someone in the hospital or someone who is homebound
  • Write letter to Armed Forces
  • Serve food at Park Manor Nursing Home
