From a Charles Rice teacher…

Encouragement from a Charles Rice teacher:

Esther Bell grew up in the Charles Rice school neighborhood and attended school there. She returned after college to teach at Rice for 27 years. Champions of Hope’s pilot program was with several of Ms. Bell’s fourth grade students. Here is what she had to say about Champions of Hope, after just one year of mentoring at Rice:

I just wanted to take the time to tell you how great of an impact you ve made on the lives of the students at Charles Rice School. I taught at Rice for 27 years and I ve seen mentors come and go. However last year I saw the true meaning of what mentoring means. For the first time I witnessed a positive change in the lives of the students who were blessed to have a mentor. Their self-esteem rose, because of the positive influence they were experiencing. Some of the students experienced for the first time what it meant to have someone believe in them and their right to have a full and happy life as a child. (November 4, 2009)
