Junior year can be a tough year for students who struggle academically as students must take their Exit Level State Tests. There is pressure because, if they do not pass them the first time, they must continue to take them until they pass. By now, some of your proteges peers may have dropped out and your protege may begin to question whether or not graduating worth it. As a mentor, you may need to remind them of the benefit of finishing well and provide the needed encouragement to stay focused.
–Take time to review academic goals and see if your protege is on track
–Continue to encourage reading by reading a book with common interests together
–Make sure your protege understands graduation requirements and is completing these requirements
