In 5th grade, your protege is in the oldest grade at their elementary school. The younger students all look up to them. They should be setting the pace for their peers, and this means that they must learn to lead through by example as they look to transition back to being the youngest group in their school. They are not only future leaders but also present ones. Help your protege develop leadership skills as well as the ability to think about what it takes to work toward the future wisely.
–Talk with them about being a leader
–Visit the 6th floor museum to talk about JFK
–During Black/Hispanic history month, bring up an important leader and talk about why they were important
–Create a budget for a hangout and ask them to plan something that fits within that budget
